Irina Timofeyeva wins Shanghai Marathon
30.11.2008 Olympic Games competitor Inira Timofeyeva won the Shanghai marathon clocking 2:26:19. In Spain, Yelena Tikhonova finished second at the San Sebastian Marathon in 2:45:51. Irina Pankovskaya was third with 2:54:59.

24.11.2008 Russian team placed third at the tradition Ekiden in Chiba (Japan) clocking 2:08:04. The team consisted of Grigoriy Andreyev, Liliya Shobukhova, Yevgeniy Rybakov, Olesya Syryeva, Anatoliy Rybakov and Mariya Konovalova.

23.11.2008 Monte-Carlo – During the celebrations of the World Athletics Gala hosted by International Athletic Foundation (IAF) Honorary President HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and IAF & IAAF President Lamine Diack in the Salle des Etoiles of the Sporting Club d’Eté Monte Carlo, 22-year-old Jamaican Usain Bolt and Russia’s 26-year-old Yelena Isinbayeva were crowned as the Male and Female World Athletes of the Year 2008.

Dmitriy Safronov third in San Antonio
17.11.2008 Russia’s Dmitriy Safronov finished third at the Rock’n’Roll marathon in San Antonio clocking 2:15:56. Thw winner was Meschak Kirwa of Kenya with 2:14:35. In the women’s division Tatyana Pushkareva was fourth – 2:39:59.

Svetlana Zakharova sixth in Tokyo
16.11.2008 Beijing competitor and 2008 London Marathon runner-up Svetlana Zakharova finished sixth at the 30th Tokyo Women Marathon. She clocked 2:30:42. Yoshimi Ozaki of Japan won the race with 2:23:30. It was the second race in Ozaki’s career.

Yelena Tikhonova second in Greece
09.11.2008 Russia’s Yelena Tikhonova finished second at the 26th Athens Classic marathon clocking 2:40:45. In the men’s division, Dmitriy Semenov was 11th with 2:21:52.

IAAF ratified Nizhegorodov’s World record
09.11.2008 The IAAF ratified Denis Nizhegorodov’s World record in the men’s 50km Race Walking of 3:34:14 set at the World Race Walking Cup in Cheboksary.

Russians’ successes in Montenegro
03.11.2008 Vladimir Ponomarev (2:15:17) and Aleksey Sokolov (2:19:08) finished second and third at the 15th Podgorica Marathon held in Montenegro. The winner was Yaroslav Mushchinskiy of Moldavia clocking 2:14:50. Artem Yekimov won the half marathon with 1:07:02. Tatyana Perepelkina finished third over the women’s marathon clocking 2:45:42.

World records ratified
03.11.2008 The IAAF has ratified World records of Denis Nizhegorodov and Aleksey Bartsaykin in the men’s 50km (3:34.14) and Junior 10km (39.32) Race Walking correspondingly. The Russian race walkers had set the records at the World Cup in Cheboksary, Russia.

Petrova’s silver finish
03.11.2008 Russia’s Lyudmila Petrova finished second at the New York Marathon setting a World record of 2:25:423 for the Women over 40 category. She lost the lead in the last meters of the distance to let Paula Radcliff win. In 2000, Petrova was the first Russian runner to win the marathon. Lyudmila Morgunova was 9th with 2:30:38.
