Svetlana Cherkasova wins in Gent

Svetlana Cherkasova won the women’s 800 meters at the today’s KBC Indoor meeting. She clocked 2:00.75 mins and beat Mozambique’s Maria Mutola by 0.06 seconds. Irina Vashentseva was third with 2:01.73 and Mariya Shapayeva finished fifth with 2:02.11.

Russia take runaway victory - Yokohama Ekiden

Russia, one of the pre-race favourites comfortably won the 2006 Yokohama International Women’s Ekiden, Yokohama, Japan, a six-stage marathon distance ekiden in 2:13:55.

World Indoor record flurry points to warm winter finale in Moscow

Monte-Carlo - Temperatures in the Russian capital have been exceptionally cold this winter but the flurry of World Indoor records which have occurred during the opening weeks of the 2006 indoor season leave us no doubt that the 11th IAAF World Indoor Championships, which take place in Moscow from 10 to 12 March, will provide us with some red hot competition.

Yelena Isinbayeva wins in Birmingham

Yelena Isinbayeva won the women’s pole vault at the Norwich Union Grand Prix, held in Birmingham today. She cleared 4.79 meters. Svetlana Feofanova placed third with a clearance of 4.45 meters.

Olga Kotlyarova achieves 800m World season lead!

Olga Kotlyarova won the women’s 800 meters at the Russian Indoor Championships with a World season best of 1:57.51 minutes. Kotlyarova’s result is the second in the Russian Athletics’ history. There is only Natalya Tsyganova who ran faster: 1:57.47 on 7 March 1999.

Yelena Soboleva sets 1500m World record

The third day of the Russian Indoor Championships brought the second World record. This time, Yelena Soboleva won the women’s 1500 meters having clocked an amazing time of 3:58.28 minutes! Yelena bettered the previous record set by Regina Jackobs from USA on 1 February 2003 by 1.70 seconds!

Natalya Nazarova sets World season best

Natalya Nazarova won the women’s 400 meters at the Russian Indoor Championships having achieved a World season best of 49.98 seconds. Olesya Krasnomovets ran up with 50.04 seconds and Natalya Antyukh was third — 50.37.

Day 3: first champions

The competitions of Day 3 of the Russian Indoor Championships have started in Moscow CSKA Sports Indoor Hall a few minutes ago. Today’s first champion titles were won by Ivan Teplykh and Natalya Ivanova who clocked in the 200 meters 21.32 and 23.13 seconds correspondingly.

Borzakovskiy wins another title

At the Russian Indoors, Yuriy Borzakovskiy won the men’s 1500 meters in his best manner with a finish spurt and beat the rivals by far — 3:41.53.

Ruslan Gataullin meets WIC standard

Ruslan Gataullin won the men’s long jump at the Russian Indoor Championships with 8.11 meters yesterday. He was the only one who met the qualifying standard for the 11th IAAF World Indoor Championships on 10-12 March in Moscow, Russia.

Fast 400 meters semi-finals

Very good results were achieved at Russian Indoors in the 400 meters semi-finals. In the men’s division, Dmitriy Petrov clocked a Russian season best of 46.32 seconds. Natalya Nazarova was the best in the women’s division with 50.32 seconds (1st semi-final).

Four over 2.32 at Russian Indoors

Andrey Tereshin won the men’s high jump at the Russian Indoor Championships having cleared a personal best of 2.36 meters. Yaroslav Rybakov ran up with a clearance of 2.34 m. Ivan Ukhov and Andrey Silnov shared the third place — 2.32 meters.

Borisov and Korsunova win 60m hurdles

Yevgeniy Borisov and Olga Kursunova became Russian champions in the 60 meters Hurdles achieving 7.65 and 8.09 seconds correspondingly. Igor Peremota the 60mH final favorite started unsuccessfully and injured at the first hurdle.

World record for Shobukhova!

Liliya Shobukhova set a new World record of 8:27.86 minutes in the women’s 3000 meters during a close contest with Olesya Syryeva at the Russian Indoor Championships. Shubokhova bettered Berhane Adere’s (ETH) record by 1.29 seconds!

Anna Pyatykh wins Triple jump

Anna Pyatykh just won the women’s triple jump at the Russian Indoor Championships, having jumped a Russian season best of 14.69 meters. Tatyana Lebedeva was second with 14.61 meters.

Svetlana Feofanova won the first final of the 2006 Russian Indoor Championships that started in Moscow today, clearing 4.55 meters in the women’s pole vault.

Moscow World Indoor Championships – One Month to Go!

Monte-Carlo – There is exactly one month to go to the start of the 11th IAAF World Indoor Championships, Moscow, Russia, 10-12 March 2006. These championships which take place in the Olimpiyski Sport Palace Complex, will be the first of seven IAAF World Athletics Series (WAS) events to be staged in 2006.
