55 countries to compete in Cheboksary

At present, 55* IAAF member federations have entered for the 23rd IAAF Race Walking Cup which takes place on 10-11 May in Cheboksary. The total number of athletes is 452 (290 men and 162 women).

Some World Athletics stars have confirmed their participation in 50th Znamensky Memorial, a European Premium Outdoor Meeting, in Zhukovsky on 15 June. Famous Kenyan athletes Moses Mosop and Leonard Komon will run 5000m, Georgiy and Serafim Znamensky’s favorite event.

Valentin Balakhnichov: we had to disqualify Lysenko and Khoroshin for 2 years

Russian Athletics Federation took decision to disqualify hammer throwers Tatyana Lysenko and Yekaterina Khoroshikh for two years, the federation’s president and IAAF Council member Valentin Balakhnichov told the All Sports agency.

Svetlana Ponomarenko wins in Nashville

Svetlana Ponomarenko won at the 9th Country Music Marathon in Nashville (USA) clocking 2:30:33.

Ilya Markov second in Madrid

Ilya Markov finished second over the men’s 10km RW at the Grand Prix of Mortalaz meeting clocking 39:57 in Spanish Madrid. The winner was Francisco Fernandez from Spain with 38:28.

Irina Timofeyeva wins in Hamburg

Irina Timofeyeva won today’s Hamburg marathon setting the personal best and the marathon record of 2:24:14. Kenia’s Pamela Chepchumba run up with 2:28:36 and Ethiopia’s Ashagigi Roba was third clocking 2:29:28. Another Russian Olga Rosseyeva finished eighth with 2:32:10.

Tatyana Lebedeva named SLAVA Athlete of the Year

World champions to meet in Zhukovsky

The organizing committee of the 50th Znamensky Memorial has received first confirmations of participation in the meeting. This year’s World Indoor champions Blanka Vlasic from Croatia and Osoluji Fasuba from Nigeria come to Zhukovsky on 15 June.

Biktimirova second in Boston

Alevtina Biktimirova finished second at the Boston Marathon clocking 2:25:27. Alevtina leaded the race and lost just 2 second at the finish line allowing Ephiopia’s Dire Tune to win. Last year’s champion Lidiya Grigoriyeva was 9th clocking 2:35:57.

Oleg Kulkon wins in Zurich

Oleg Kulkov won Sunday’s Zurich marathon setting a personal best and Russia’s season second of 2:11:15. Kulkov placed third at the European 10000m Cup one week ago.

Ivanova wins Nagano marathon

Alevtina Ivanova defended her Nagano Olympic Commemorative Marathon titles Sunday. Ivanova, 32, improved her personal best by clocking two hours 26 minutes 39 seconds to beat Kate Smyth of Australia with 2:28:52 and Dorota Gruca of Poland (2:31:54).

50th Znamensky Memorial Events

The 50th edition of the Znamensky Memorial, European Premium Otdoor Meeting, will take place in Zhukovsky, Moscow region, in 2 months on 15 June. The timetable consists of 8 men’s events (100 m, 400 m, 800 m, 5000 m, Pole Vault, Triple Jump, Javelin Throw, 4 x 100 m Relay) and 9 women’s events (100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 100 mH, 400 mH, High Jump, Long Jump, Javelin Throw).

Russian successes in marathons

There were some important marathons on weekend, and the Flora London marathon was the main of them. In London, Svetlana Zakharova placed second clocking a good time of 2:24:39, and Germany’s Irina Mikitenko won the race with 2:24.14.

Russian men won in Istanbul

Russian men’s team won at the 12th European Cup 10000m held in Istanbul, Turkey. It was for the first time for Russian team which beat strong teams from Spain and Italy, placed second and third correspondingly.

TFN named Soboleva the best

Famous Track and Field News magazine named 1500m World Indoor Champion and indoor record holder Yelena Soboleva the World best female athlete of the season. Yearly, Yelena was named the Russian best athlete of the season at RusAthletics.com.

No IAAF disciplinary sanctions for Gulfiya Khanafeyeva

IAAF will not apply disciplinary sanctions for Russian hammer thrower Gulfiya Khanafeyeva according to the report of an anti-doping laboratory of Penang, said Russian Athletics President and IAAF Council member Valentin Balakhnichov taking part in the IAAF Council meeting in London.
