IAAF Anti-doping investigation leads to provisional suspension of Russian athletes

MONACO - The IAAF has provisionally suspended seven athletes* from Russia for doping offences, a decision which has been acknowledged by the All Russia Athletics Federation (ARAF).

Rybakov beats Holm in Sweden

Yaroslav Rybakov won the men’s high jump clearing 2.33m at the Folksam Grand Prix 2008 held in Karlstad, Sweden yesterday. He beat Stefan Holm of Sweden who cleared 2.27.

Lukyanenko and Chicherova win in Lindon

Yevgeniy Lukyanenko won the men’s pole vault clearing 5.97 at the Norwich Union London Grand Prix on Day 2. Anna Chicherova won the women’s high jump with 2.01.

Yelena Isinbayeva won the women’s pole vault at the DN Galan, an IAAF World athletics tour meeting. She cleared 4.85m. Yuriy Borzakovskiy set a Russian record over the men’s 1000m clocking 2:15.50.

Russian team for Beijing

Russian Athletics has announced a preliminary list of the Russian team for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The team consists of 109 athletes, 49 men and 60 women. The list will be finally confirmed by the Russian Olympic Committee.

Mikhaylovskiy wins men’s long jump

Sergey Mikhaylovskiy won the men’s long jump at the Russian Athletics Championships in Kazan. He jumped 7.92m. Vladimir Malyavin placed second with 7.87m. Ruslan Gataullin achieved 7.86m taking the third place.

Gulfiya Khanafeyeva – 75.07 in Hammer throw

The women’s hammer throw at the Russian Atheltics Championships was won by Gulfiya Khanafeyeva who achieved the World season fifth of 75.07m. Yelena Konevtsova took the silver with 74.81 and Anna Bulgakova was third (72.62).

Mariya Abakumova – champion in Javelin throw

Mariya Abakumova won the women’s javelin throw at the Russian Atheltics Championships in Kazan, achieving 65.71 m, which is a Russian U23 record. Oksana Gromova placed second with 57.90m. Mariya Yakovenko was third with 57.70.

Feofanova wins pole vault

Svetlana Feofanova won the women’s pole vault clearing 4.75 at the Russian Athletics Championships in Kazan. Yuliya Golubchikova achieved 4.65 and placed second. Tatyana Polnova was third with 4.60m.

Yepishin and Polyakova fastest in 100m

The second place and third one were taken by Russians as well: Yuliya Golubchikova (4.60) and Aleksandra Kiryshova (4.40). Irina Tarasova won the women’s shot put with 18.45.

Bydgoszcz, Poland - With multiple World champions in attendance, a brand new track and excellent weather conditions, the Tamex Cup European Athletics Festival in Bydgoszcz was bound to provide world-class performances. And the stars did not disappoint. Two results in jumping results stood out – Yevgeniy Lukyanenko won the men’s pole vault with a new personal best of 6.01 and Blanka Vlasic triumphed in the women’s high jump with a clearance of 2.05.
