On a dismally humid and overcast morning (18,33C and 90%), the threat of rain for the 29th running of the Bobby Crim 10 mile race (27 Aug) held off until the award ceremony. The deluge of rain was so drenching, the award ceremony had to be held indoors.

Russian athletes won in two events at the Intersport Gugl Meeting, held in Linz, Austria, yesterday. Tatiana Tomashova won in the women’s 1000 meters with a personal best of 2:34.91 minutes, and Yelena Zadorozhnaya won in the women’s 3000 meters — 8:46.05 minutes.

Viacheslav Voronin jumps 2.33 in Eberstadt

Viacheslav Voronin gained an excellent victory in the men’s high jump at the Hochsprung-Meeting in German city of Eberstadt. He achieved a season best of 2.33m. Tatiana Kivimiagi was second in the women’s division with 1.91m.

Lilia Shobukhova and Anna Chicherova placed third at British Grand Prix held in Sheffield yesterday. Shobukhova clocked 15.09,11 minutes in the women’s 5000m and Chicherova cleared 1.94meters in the women’s high jump.

Russian team wins at Universiade 2005

Russian athletes won the largest number of medals at Universiade 2005 that finished in Izmir, Turkey. Our team won 20 medals, 11 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze, topping the medal table. Polish team won 7 medals and Chinese team won 9 ones.

Lebedeva remains in the Jackpot hunt

Tatyana Lebedeva of Russia and France’s Christine Arron started this evening as the last two contenders for the TDK Golden League Jackpot of one million dollars, a share of which goes to any athlete who can win at all six series meetings and then competes at the World Athletics Final in Monaco (9 – 10 September).

Two medals on Day 5 at Universiade

Russian athletes won two medals on Day 5 at the Universiade 2005 in Izmir yesterday. Anna Chicherova cleared 1.90 mesters in the women’s high jump and won the gold medal. Nadezhda Bazhenova was third in the women’s triple jump — 13,90m.

Russian athletes won tree medals on Day 4 at Universiade 2005, being hold in Izmir (Turkey). Natalia Ivanova and Yelena Yakovleva won the gold and the silvers in the women’s 200m accordingly, achieving 23.28 and 23.45 seconds. Olesia Syrieva wont the women’s 1500m with 4:12.69 minutes.
