Three Russian wins in Banska Bysrtica

Russian athletes won three events at the Athletic Bridge meeting held on 28 August in Slovak city of Banska Bystrica. Tatyana Lysenko won the hammer throw with 75.07m, Andrey Tereshin won the high jump with 2.31m and Andrey Farnosov won the 3000mSt with 8:33.41.

Anna Pyatykh wins in Rieti

Gothenburg Bronze medalist Anna Pyatykh won the Rieti 2006, an IAAF Grand Prix meeting, held in Italy yesterday. She improved the previous meeting record by 1cm with a leap to 14.74m.

Russian athletes are leading after Day 1 of the Norwich Union International, a GBR-CHN-RUS-USA match, being held in Birmingham this weekend. Our team scored 165 points, USA – 143, GBR – 129, CHN – 73.

Three medals more

Russian athletes won yet another three medals at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Beijing today. Tatyana Chernova won the heptathlon with a World Junior lead of 6227 points. Yana Panteleyeva took bronze with 5979 points. Leonid Kivalov placed third in the men’s pole vault cleared 5.42 meters.

Tatyana Shemyakina wins silver

Tatyana Shemyakina finished second in the women’s 10000mRW at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Beijing this morning. She clocked 45:34.41. Vera Sokolova was fourth with 46:58.21.

Olga Kotlyarova wins in Zurich

This year’s European Champion Olga Kotlyarova won the women’s 800 meters at the Weltklasse, an IAAF Golden League meeting, in Zurich, clocking 1:58.69 minutes.

Russians’ two wins at World Juniors

Russian athletes won two events at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Beijing (China) today. Yevgeniy Aydamirov set a new championships record of 78.42 m in the men’s 6kg hammer throw and Yekaterina Shtepa clocked a World Junior season lead of 13.33sec in the women’s 100mH.

Arkadiy Vasilyev wins Decathlon

Arkadiy Vasilyev won the men’s Decathlon Junior at the IAAF World Junior Championships being hold in Beijing. He set a new Course Record of 8059 points. Sergey Dorofeyev placed fourth with 7518 points.

Tatyana Lysenko sets new World record

Tatyana Lysenko has set a new World record of 77.80 meters in the women’s hammer throw at the Tallinn 2006 meeting being hold in Estonia. She bettered her previous World record by 39cm!

Women’s 1500m final: Tomashova triumphs again

Tatyana Tomashova and Yuliya Chizhenko continued the dominance of Russia’s women in Göteborg by taking the gold and silver medals in the 1500m. The Russians were only denied a clean sweep by the strength of the Bulgarian Daniela Yordanova who overtook the third Russian, Yelena Soboleva, in the finishing straight.

There were no surprises in the final of the women’s 4x400m final as Russia fulfilled all the predictions in style, walking away with the gold in a time of 3:25.12.

Women’s pole vault final: Isinbayeva takes seven jumps to gold

It took just seven jumps, including qualification, for Yelena Isinbayeva (RUS) to claim gold in the Ullevi stadium with a new championship record of 4.80m. From the start, the only hope any of her rivals had was if she had a disaster in the rain that was steadily falling. A minor hiccup at 4.70m when she dislodged the bar on the way up offered a glimmer of hope, but it was just as suddenly extinguished at the second attempt.

Women’s 800m final: Kotlyarova flies to gold

She ran her first 800m for fun two years ago, but the final in the European championships was in deadly earnest as Olga Kotlyarova (RUS) brought off the coup of the week to take gold in 1:57.38.

Women’s hammer final: Lysenko does it in style

The predictions were confirmed as world record holder Tatyana Lysenko (RUS) took gold in regal style, smashing the championship record twice to leave it at a massive 76.67m, more than three and a half metres further than the old mark held by her compatriot Olga Kuzenkova.

Abitova steps down in distance to take gold in classy 10,000

A riveting 10,000m European Athletics Championship final was won by the Russian No2, Inga Abitova, in 30:31.42 in a race led by Netherlands’ Lornah Kiplagat for all of 9,500m. In a big surprise, Norway’s Susanne Wigene (30:32.36) came sprinting through for silver, while bronze went to another Russian, Lidiya Grigoryeva (30:32.72). Twelve of the top 20, including all the medallists, set personal bests in the race.
