Emily Brichacek wins road race despite being hit by motorbike

19.10.2011 World

DISTANCE runners are a tough breed - and that showed yesterday when Emily Brichacek won a road race after being knocked down by a photographer on a motorbike.

The Canberra athlete was at the 6km mark, in a group of men that included Hobart's Jordan Harries, when the accredited motorbike swiped them from behind while running the Burnie Ten in Tasmania.

Both athletes hit the tarmac but dusted themselves off and got on with the job, The Mercury reported.

For Brichacek, it meant on to victory and the sweetness of a $3500 winner's purse.
