First names for Goteborg

Five athletes were included to Russian team for the 19th European Athletics Championships without selection, Valeriy Kulichenko, the chief trainer of Russian Athletics, told to Ves Sport agency. They are Yelena Isinbayeva, Tatyana Lebedeva, Yelena Slesarenko,Yaroslav Rybakov and Lyudmila Petrova.
“We have received four written requests from the first four athletes to absolve them from the national selection for the European Championships”, Kulichenko said. “Taking into account all the arguments, we decided to comply with the requests. Other athletes will be selected at the Russian Championships which take place in Tula on 11-15 June. Champions will be included into the team automatically. Two other names for every event become known after the Znamenski Memorial on 24 June and European Cup on 28-29 June”.

Earlier, Valeriy Kulichenko had said that Lyudmila Petrova had become the first member of Russian team for Goteborg after placing second at the London marathon, setting a new Russian record of 2:21:29.
