Plus 5 athletes for Gothenburg

Russian Athletics named another 5 athletes for the 19th European Athletics Championships which take place in Gothenburg (Sweden) on 6-13 August, said the chief coach of Russian National team Valeriy Kulichenko.
“In addition to the earlier named athletes, Yelena Isinbayeva (pole vault), Yelena Slesarenko (high jump), Tatyana Lebedeva (triple jump), Yaroslav Rybakov (high jump) and Lyudmila Petrova (marathon), we decided to set free from the national selection for Gothenburg Tatyana Kotova (long jump), Liliya Shobukhova (5000m), Yuliya Pechenkina (400mH), Olimpiada Ivanova (Race Walking) and Yuliya Chizhenko (1500m)”, said Kulichenko.
He added, “We decided to give the absolutely leaders of the national team an opportunity to prepare for Gothenburg purposeful. The reasons for the decision are their results at the 2005 World Championships and the 2006 World Indoor Championships”.
Valeriy Kulichenko also said that the nearest selection event is the 2006 Russian Championships in Tula on 10-15 June.
