Natalya Antyukh wins Olympic gold medal in 400mH

09.08.2012

European champion and World season leader Natalya Antyukh won the women’s 400mH at the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London. She clocked 52.70 and set her personal best as well.

«Taking third in my first Olympics was superb at that time since I was just 23 years old,» Antyukh says to IAAF. «I thought about going back to the roots. Because when I was a junior athlete I was running the hurdles as well. Of course it was quite a risk and it was a very difficult decision to make. But my coach gave me a lot of support during this transition time. For her it was an experiment as well,» recalls Antyukh, who is coached by Yekaterina Kulikova.
