One year until the World Championships
365 days left until the Moscow IAAF World Championships 2013 opening ceremony
“See you in Moscow!” many Olympians say. Some of them want to extend their world dominance, some of them want a revenge, others just want to impress in Moscow. Yelena Isinbayeva in London once again claimed that she wants to crown her successful career in Moscow in 2013, hopefully with an excellent performance. It’s expected that all the world athletic stars will come to the Russian capital next year. Russian Olympic champions Natalya Antyukh, Ivan Ukhov and Yuliya Zaripova have already confirmed that they are eager to compete in front of the home crowd.
The preparations in Moscow don’t pause for a second. While the future participants take over the Olympic titles, the construction workers are renovating all the arenas in Luzhniki. The renovation started on the 12th of June. All the stadiums (Southern and Northern Sports Complexes, Sportgorodok and the Grand Sports Arena) will have a new Mondo track. The main arena will have a blue track, the others – the traditional red one. The Southern Sports Compex and the Grand Arena will also have a natural grass field for the throwing events. There will be two test events next summer: the Moscow Challenge (June 11th) and the Russian Championships (July). The race walk course has already been tested during the national championships in May, and the marathon course will be tested during the Russian Championships next spring.
There are no little things at this kind of an event. There will be nine competition days, more than 25000 accredited persons including IAAF Family, athletes, volunteers, judges, more than 10000 foreign tourists daily. Accomodation, transportation, safety, medical service schemes have already been developed.
As RusAthletics.com рфы already informed, on July 31st the delegation of the LOC, headed by the ARAF President Valentin Balakhnichev, presented a progress report at the IAAF Counsil meeting in London. Since the previous Council meeting Moscow welcomed the second visit of the coordination commission chaired by Sergey Bubka. There was also a site visit of the technical delegates and IAAF specialists. On the 15th of June the LOC hosted a sponsors’ seminar. At the Council meeting in London the designs of the medals and the poster of the Championshipswere approved. The Moscow medals have a traditional round shape and look elegant and airy. On the obverse there is a championships’ logo, on the reverse, where the name of the medallist will be engraved, there is a national ornament.
The Council also touched upon the preparations for the IAAF Congress that will take place in Moscow on the eve of the World Championships. The Congress will become more interactive, it will include the elements of a “Forum” so that the national federations will have an opportunity to engage in a dialog on the athletics development.
The ticket sales for the competition days are expected to start in autumn.
