Application for a Diamond League competition
The Minister of Sports of Russia Vitaly Mutko said that Moscow would like to apply for the Diamond League competition to be organised regularly in Moscow, moreover, the Ministry is also considering application for the IAAF World Junior Championships in Russia.
At the press conference that took place in Moscow Vitaly Mutko said: “I agree that we need to consolidate the results of the IAAF World Championships held in Moscow this summer and for this we need to get a Diamond League stage to Moscow but this is not that easy. If we succeed and get the right to organise the Diamond League competition in Moscow, we can think about the reconstructed Luzhniki stadium as the competition venue. Now we are also discussing the application to stage the IAAF World Junior Championships 2016.”
At the IAAF World Championships that took place this summer in Moscow the Russian national team got the first place “on the teams’ medal podium” with seven gold, four silver and six bronze medals, in the number of gold medals winning over the main competitors – team USA.
