Shubenkov will home in on glory

25.05.2015

Russia’s Sergey Shubenkov is building his season around peaking twice and as he has proved in the the last two summers, he is becoming quite a master at it.

His first stop is just a few weeks away at the European Athletics Team Championships in Cheboksary.

And as host nation Russia bid to regain the Super League crown they have won on three of the five occasions the competition has been staged, Shubenkov will be after a personal hat-trick.

The 110m hurdler triumphed in Gateshead in 2013 and then 12 months ago in one of the best races of the weekend in Braunschweig.

It was a taster of what would happen later in the summer when he won in 13.20, a championship record, ahead of William Sharman, of Great Britain, and France’s Pascal Martinot-Lagarde.

A few weeks after that race in Germany, it was the same 1-2-3 at the European Athletics Championships in Zurich.
