PRESS RELEASE

24.03.2016

Russian Athletic Federation informs you that Sports Arbitration Tribunal (CAS) issued a decision this Thursday in Lausanne with regard to several Russian athletes.

Over a year ago Russian Anti – doping Agency (RUSADA) announced disqualification of six (6) Russian athletes for different periods based on their abnormal parameters of biological passports. International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) was not in agreement with this selective decision taken by RUSADA and in March 2015 lodged an appeal to CAS insisting on modification of RUSADA decision.

On Thursday, March 24, CAS took the following decisions:
- To disqualify all competitive results achieved by Ms Olga Kaniskina in the period from August 15, 2009 till October 15, 2012;
- To disqualify all competitive results achieved by Sergey Kirdiapkin from August 20, 2009 till October 15, 2012;
- To disqualify all competitive results achieved by Sergey Bakulin from February 25, 2011 till December 24, 2012;
- To disqualify all competitive results achieved by Ms Julia Zaripova from July 20, 2011 till July 25, 2013;
To disqualify all competitive results achieved by Valery Borchin from August 14, 2009 till October 15, 2012. CAS modified life ban issued  to Vladimir Kanaikin for a 8 years suspension. His period of suspension started on December 17, 2012. All competitive results achieved from February 25, 2011 till December 17, 2012 will be disqualified.

Decision taken by CAS shall be final and without appeal. Russian Athletic Federation accepted this decision for further practical implementation. Members of the Russian Athletic Federation feel confident that implacable flight against doping in Russian athletics will bring its fruit, and Russian athletes will be able to come back to the world athletic family.
