Russia’s first medals at World Youths.

Russian athletes won their first medals, 1 gold and 1 silver, at the 4th World Youth Championships in Athletics started in Moroccan city of Marrakesh on 13 July.
European Cup silver medalist Tatiana Kalmykova won the girls’ 5000 meters Race Walk with a new race record of 22.14,17 minutes. Elmira Alembekova finished second with 22.27,17 minutes.

Alembekova had leaded from the start to the 4000m mark. Her times were 4.26,39 at 1000 meters, 8.51,41 at 2000m, 13.27,61 at 3000m. Kalmykova became the leader at 4000m, where she clocked 17.53,00.

After two days, Russian team place fourth in the medal table with USA at first place, RSA at second and Great Britain at third.
