17.01.2009 World

A politician from Dervock, a small village in County Antrim in Northern Ireland, has written to the Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell asking for the marathon at the 2012 Games to be staged there.
Ballymoney councillor Ian Stevenson claims that it would be the perfect way to celebrate the cenentary of the victory of Kenneth McArthur, who was from Dervock, in the 1912 Olympic marathon in Stockholm.

McArthur is the only runner born in the British Isles to have won an Olympic gold medal in the blue-riband event of the Games, informs insidethegames.com.
