Yevgeniy Borisov: there is no authorities for me

24.01.2009

World Indoor Silver medalist, Russian record holder Yevgeniy Borisov told to RusAthletics.com about his plans for the season and why he like to compete at the Russian Winter.
Yevgeniy, did anything change after you had taken a silver medal at the World Indoors?

No. I’m still a cool guy who likes to run the hurdles (laughing).

Have you fear of you rivals? What do you think about when Liu Xiang, Allen Johnson, Dyron Robles and Ladji Doucoure are near to you on the track?

I think who to beat them, nothing else. I start and run for it. To tell the truth, I have often faced them on the track and I haven’t any fear of them.

As compared with last season, is there difference in the training and who do you feel physically?

I was at home last season and had one training per day. This season, I was in a training session in Portugal and had two trainings per day. I feel perfect. Judging by my first result, we did everything right. I already clocked 7.59. Last year my first time was 7.64.

Do you like to run at the Russian Winter?

I do. There is always a good atmosphere and strong rivals. This year there is Ladji Doucoure, the main rival at the European Indoors. It’s very helpful for me to run against him in Moscow. I know he is seriously training for Torino. Igor Peremota is my main rival among the Russians. So the fight will be sharp. I’m going to run sub-7.50 seconds and not to be injured. Our event is very danger for injuries and unpredictable.

Which starts do you plan this season?

I plan to run in Stuttgart on 7 February after the Russian Winter. There will be Dyron Robles. Then, there will be a start in Leuven on 10 February, the Russian Indoors in March and the European Indoors in Torino.

What is the main for you, a result or a place?

It’s nice to achieve a good result before a major competition but to be on the podium at European Championships, World Championships and Olympic Games. Last year in Valencia, I with my trainer issued a challenge to be in the final, so I could take a bronze medal. I was shocked. I was so happy so I couldn’t say anything.
