Women’s 1000m at Russian Winter: wait for records!

27.01.2009

The women’s 1000m is traditionally one of the best events of the Russian Winter meeting. As usual, competitors gladden the crowd by a beautiful run and high results.
For the Russians, attacks on records has become normal whether because of a strong competition or because of the track of the CSKA area. This year, the 1000m lineup includes Olympic champion Gulnara Galkina-Samitova who is always aimed to win, so seeing her running is true delight for the crowd.

Galkina-Samitova will be challenged by World Championships finalist Meskerem Assefa of Ethiopia, World Indoor silver medalist Tatyana Petlyuk of Ukraine, Olympic 1500m finalist Anna Alminova (her SB – 2:39.13), European Indoor Champion Oksana Zbrozhek, Natalya Yevdokimova, Mariya Savinova and Yevgeniya Zolotaryova (all Russians).

Tatyana Petlyuk will be the strongest rival for the Russians; she knows pretty well the CSKA track because she ran there many times.

“This meeting will be the first serious test for me after the Olympic Games”, told to Runners.ru Tatyana. “I recovered during a long time after Beijing. I trained hard, but couldn’t carry out. Maria Mutola revenged on me for the World Championships when I crossed accidentally her line. I plan to compete in Düsseldorf and Karlsruhe, then at the Ukrainian Indoor Championship to be selected in a national team for Torino. So, the meeting in Moscow will be a test of my today’s shape”.
