Yelena Isinbaeva clears 5 meters first in history.

23.07.2005

On 13 July 1985 in Paris, the greatest pole vaulter Sergei Bubka from Donets (Ukraine) had cleared 6 meters first in the history of the men’s pole vault. And now, 20 years and 9 days later, Yelena Isinbaeva cleared 5 meters in the women’s pole vault at yesterday’s London Grand Prix!
“It was my dream to be the first woman over 5m, I can’t explain my feelings. I love the run-up and the stadium here. The weather was good and the crowd was great. I don’t know how much higher I can go, may be 5.05m”, Yelena said after the 5 meters clearance.

Sergey Bubka (IAAF Council Member and current World record holder for the men’s event) said, “I think she is unique, she jumps records like I did in my time. She jumped 5m which is something special. I think she can jump higher. I want her to beat my record (of the number of World records).”
