Russians top medal table in Kaunas before last day.

The last day of the European Junior Championships is holding in Lithuanian city of Kaunas today. Before it, Russian team top the medal table having 13 medals, 4 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze. Our team won 3 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze medals during previous two days.
Russian men repeated the women’s success in Day 1 in the men’s 10000m Walk final, placing first and second. The race’s doubtless leader Andrei Ruzavin won with a new course record of 39.28,45 minutes. Aleksandr Prokhorov run up with 40.43,67 minutes. Unfortunately, Viacheslav Golovin who had finished third was disqualified.

Andrei Ruzavin said after the finish, “When I was going the last metres I was thinking about the finish and how I will raise my hands. I feel wonderful!”

Ivan Ukhov was the only one in the men’s high jump who cleared 2.23 meters. “I feel a little bit confused. I still can not believe that I am a winner”, he said.

Yulia Chemoshanskaia won the women’s 200 meters with 23.21 second. She said, “I feel wonderful, I am very happy. This victory is very important for me . It is the begining of my carier”.

The winner in the women’s 400mH final was determined only with a photo-finish because of Zuzana Chejnova from Czech and Russia’s Yekaterina Kostetskaia clocked the same time of 55,89 seconds, a new course record. Unfortunately, it was Chejnova.

Yekaterina said after the winner was determined , “I am quite disapointed. Everything happens. This is not the last championship in my life”. Russia’s Yulia Bychkova placed third with 58.12 seconds.

The others silver medals were won by Ksenia Zadorina in the women’s 400m (53,39 sec), Maria Shapaeva in the women’s 800m (2.03,00 minutes), Tatiana Azorkina in the women’s 5000m (16.18,60 min) and Irina Tarasona in the women’s shot put (16,53m). Maksim Sidorov placed third in the men’s shot put with 19,32 meters.
