Russian Indoor Championships, Day 1

The 2009 Russian Indoor Championships started in Moscow at the CSKA Arena yesterday. The competition takes place till Sunday.
Mikhail Idrisov won the men’s 60m clocking 6.72sec and beating Roman Smirnov (6.75) and Maksim Mokrousov (6.80). Andrey Yepishin finished sixth with 6.86.

Aleksandr Orlov won the men’s 3000m with 7:56.26, Stanislav Anishchenko run up with 7:57.21 and Konstantin Vasilyev finished third with 7:57.53. Stepan Kiselev and Aleksey Reunkov clocked sub-8 times as well: 7:58.34 and 7:59.38 respectively.

Pavel Gerasimov cleared 5.75 in the men’s pole vault. His three attempts on 5.80 were unsuccessful. He is a Russian season leader. Dmitriy Starodubtsev placed second with 5.70 repeating PB, and Viktor Chastyakov was third with 5.60m. Sergey Kucheryanu and Igor Pavlov shared the 4th place with 5.50m.

Russian record holder Yebgeniy Borisov (7.44) won the men’s 60mH clocking 7.66. Konstantin Shabanov set a personal best of 7.79 taking silver. Aydar Gilyazov finished third – 7.86.

The women’s 60m final was notable for a rare result of 7.19. Natalya Murinovich won the event andd Yevgeniya Polyakova and Anna Geflikh clocked the same time sharing the second place. Yekaterina Butusova finished fourth with 7.24.

Yuliya Kondakova won the women’s 60mH with 8.05sec beating Anastasiya Solovyova, 23, just by 1/100 seconds that was a really surprise. Anastasiya had started her career as a 400mH runner (her PB is 58.12), but then she changed her specialty to the “sort” hurdles. So she bettered her PB in the women’s 60mH to 8.06 seconds this year. Aleksandra Antonova finished third with the same result.

The women’s 3000m was won by 2008 European U23 Cross Country Bronze medalist Yulia Zarudneva who clocked 8:54.50. She won during an attractive fight on the last meters beating Yelena Sidorchenkova and Olesya Syryeva.

In the women’s 800m heats, Irina Maracheva set a World season lead of 1:59.36 becoming the first runner with a sub-2 minutes result.

2009 Russian Winter winner Antonina Krivoshapka set a World season best of 50.56 in the women’s 400m heats.
