Borzakovskiy wins in Stockholm

Yiriy Borzakovskiy won the men’s 800m at the 20th edition of the GE Galan meeting held in Stockholm on Wednesday. He clocked 1:48.13.
Borzakovskiy beat Beijing champion Wilfred Bungei of Kenya (5th, 1:50.11) and Bejing silver medalist Ismail Ahmed Ismal of Sudan (2nd, 1:48.20).

Meseret Defar of Ethiopia set a new World record of 14:24.37 in the women’s 5000m bettering Tirunesh Dibaba’s record by more than 3 seconds. Mariya Konovalova finished after the winner clocking 15:42. Natalya Popkova finished fifth with 16:09.80.

Russian record holder and World season leader Antonina Krivoshapka took a very easy win in the women’s 400m clocking 51.15sec. Anton Kokorin was third in the men’s same event with 48.13.

Olga Kucherenko won the women’s long jump achieving 6.84m. Russian bronze medalist Yelena Sokolova placed second with 6.65. Both athletes will compete in Torino.

Aleksandr Shustov took a second place in the men’s high jump with 2.30. Yaroslab Rybakov was third with the same result. Jesse Williams of USA won the event by attempts. Aleksey Dmitrik shared the fourth place with Sweden’s Linus Thornblad clearing 2.26.

Russian silver medalist Ana Geflikh finished third in the women’s 60mH clocking 7.40.

Pavel Gerasimov set a personal best of 5.86 in the men’s pole vault. Beijing si;ver medalist Yevgeniy Lukyanenko didn’t mark.
