14.05.2009 World
With the 2009 adidas Track Classic just three days away, Los Angeles area and national journalists took some time to enjoy the event’s media day festivities Wednesday at The Home Depot Center.
The day’s activities began with a press conference featuring Los Angeles native and world-class sprinter Allyson Felix, America’s best female pole vaulter Jenn Stucynski and former “World’s Fastest Man” Maurice Greene.
Following the press conference, the focus shifted to the track, one of the quickest in the country, for the preliminaries of the “Fastest Five Year-old in Los Angeles” contest.
After each of the children received pointers from Greene and Felix, three qualifying heats were held at a distance of 60m, and the top three finishers in each race earned one of nine berths in the finals.
With the field for the finals now set, the winner will be crowned this Saturday, May 16 between the men’s and women’s 100m finals at the adidas Track Classic, tentatively slated for 6:00 pm PT.
Featuring some of the best athletes from across the globe, in its history, the adidas Track Classic has showcased track and field superstars from more than two dozen nations, including World Champions Tyson Gay, Jeremy Wariner, Allyson Felix, Meseret Defar and Veronica Campbell-Brown.
