Kostetskaya beats Jelimo
Russian athletes competed at the 2 Meeting International Mohammed VI held in Rabat, Morocco, on 23 May.
There was a sensation in the women’s 800m where Olympic champion Pamela Jelimo finished sixth with 2:02.46. Yekaterina Kostetskaya was second in 2:01.86 behind Jenny Meadows with 2:01.78.
Tatyana Polnova placed second in the women’s pole vault clearing 4.40m. European Indoor silver medalist Silke Spigelburg of Germany won the event with 4.50m. Yekaterina Kolesova was fifth – 4.10. Yuliya Golubchikova did not mark.
Svetlana Shkolina placed third in the women’s high jump. She cleared 1.90m. Ruth Beitia of Spain won with 1.96 and Chaunte Howard of USA was second with 1.90 beating Shkolina by attempts. Natalya Mamlina was seventh – 1.84.
Bogdan Pishchalnikov achieved 62.80 on the men’s discus throw and placed fourth. Estonia’s Gerd Kanter was the winner throwing 65.84m.
Aleksandra Fedoriva finished third over the women’s 200m clocking 23.56sec. She we beaten by Debbie Ferguson (BAH) with 23.08 and Christine Ohuruogu (GBR) with 23.56.
