Sokolova wins 20kmRW

The 2009 Russian Race Walking Championships have started in Cheboksary today. Women started to compete first in the 20km, and Vera Sokolova became the first champion clocking 1:27.33.

Osaka Silver medalist Tatyana Shemyakina finished after Sokolova in 2 minutes – 1:29.33. Olga Mikhaylova was third with 1:31.56.

According to the chief coach of the Russian Race Walking team Aleksey Melnikov, Vera Sokolova will be recommended to be included in the national team for the 12th IAAF World Champions in Athletics in Berlin.

Tatyana Shemyakina will represent Russia at the 2009 European Athletics U23 Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania.

Olga Mikhaylova will compete at the 25th Universiade in Belgrade from 4 to 9 July.
