Unexpected favorite of Znamensky memorial

15.06.2009

Azerbaijan’s sprinter Ramil Guliyev, 19, surprisingly won the men’s 100m at the Cezmi Or Memorial held in Istanbul, Turkey, on 13 June. He clocked 10.08 setting a national record.

Guliyev bettered his PB by 0.42 seconds (last time he ran the 100m two years ago). In addition he won the men’s 200m clocking 20.42, a new national record too.

So, Guliyev became one of the favorites of the Znamensky memorial on 5 July in Zhukovski because his time is the season’s second one in Europe. His rivals will be Kim Collins of Saint Kitts and Nevis (PB 9.98), Matic Osovnikar of Slovenia (PB 10.13), Lukasz Chyla of Poland (PB 10.12) and others.

It’s possible, that Andrey Yepishin will not compete at the meeting because of an injury.
