Gulnara Galkina-Samitova won the women’s 3000mSt at the 1st European Team Championships in Leiria finishing second after Spain’s Natalia Rodriguez who fell a victim to the new rules.
Gulnara took the lead after first meters and hold it to the last lap when Natalia Rodriguez ran off Galkina-Samitova. At 5 laps to go, Rodriguez was showed a red card but she didn’t react and continued to run. Gulnara said after the race that she saw the red card for Rodriguez but decided it was a mistake.
