Ready for 100%
Organizers of the Znamensky Memorial held a press conference at the Rossiyskaya Gazeta office today. There were Moscow region officials, the meeting partners and competitors among the invited guests.
The Vice president of the Government of the Moscow Oblast Sergey Kashman noted that the meeting will be held at the highest level in spite of the crisis. The Meteor stadium is ready for 100% especially including a safety of the spectators and athletes.
Chief Coach of the Russian Athletics team Valentin Maslakov confirmed an importance of the meeting to prepare for the World Championships in Berlin. By the way, Maslakov’s pupil, World Champion and record holder Yuliya Pechonkina will compete for the first time after a long-time layoff.
There was a special attention to the new rules tested at the European Athletics team Championships. World Indoor Champion in the women’s long jump Naide Gomes of Portugal called a rule in her event “crazy”. 2009 European Indoor 60mH finalist Anastasiya Solovyova spoke about the false start ban with approval.
The World season leader in the women’s 800m Mariya Savinova noted, that she isn’t in her best shape, so the meeting will help her to get better shape. Anastasiya Solovyova said she needed to considerably improve her PB to be included to the national team for Berlin.
Russian Athletics General Secretary and the Meeting’s Director Mikhail Butov presented the athletes their start numbers including Steve Hooker who will compete at the 2010 Znamensky Memroial.
