Russian women take 4th place

The 8th European Mountain Running Championships were held in the Austrian village of Telfes im Stubai on Sunday. 260 runners from 26 countries competed at the championships.
The route for women and juniors was 9.5km long and 950m in altitude, whereas the men run on an 11km course. The 1300 meters of difference in altitude between mountain and valley posed the athletes a daunting challenge. At places the gradient was as steep as 30 degrees.
Natalya Leontyeva finished fifth in the women’s 8km clocking 57:29. Zhanna Vokuyeva was 7th with 58.01, and Natalya Starikova was 42th. Russian women’s team placed fourth in the team table.
Russian men’s team was 14th with Aleksandr Gusev on 38, Dmitriy Ishutkin on 56, Aleksey Zolotukhin on 58 and Pyotr Kozhin on 80 place.
