800m without surprises

Mariya Savinonova and Yuriy Borzakovskiy won the women’s 800m and the men’s one respectively at the Russian Championships in Cheboksary.
In the women’s 800m, Yevgeniya Zolotova took the lead after the start, Tatyana Andrianova closely ran behind her. Andrianova took over the lead and Savinova got a place behind her and started to accelerate at the last 120m. She won in 1:59.01. Svetlana Klyuka finished second with 1:59.08. Andrianova was third sharing the bronze medal with Yevgeniya Zinurova - 2:00.16.
Anna Alminova who had clocked a WSB of 1:57.86 in the heats didn’t compete in the final. She decided to concentrate on the women’s 1500m.
Yuriy Borzakovskiy leaded the race from the star to the finish and clocked 1:46.60. Yuriy Koldin finished second with 1:47.25 beating Dmitriy Bogdanov on the third place with 1:48.00. Vyacheslav Sokolov was by 1/100 seconds behind Bogdanov on fourth.
