Ukhov 2.35m; Makarov 84.24m; Abakumova beaten
The third day of the All-Russian Championships in Cheboksary (Sat 25) began with a small sensation.
The Olympic Games silver medallist in the women’s Javelin Throw Mariya Abakumova was beaten by Valerya Zabruskova, who threw the spear 61.90m to her compatriot’s 60.72m.
There was also an interesting struggle in the men’s event too. The 36-year-old veteran Sergey Makarov, the 2003 World champion who has two Olympic bronzes to his credit, won with 84.24m beating the 10 years younger Ilia Korotkov by a metre (83.24). The bronze medallist was Alexander Ivanov (82.40).
