18.09.2005

The 1st edition of the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix was held in China yesterday. Russian athletes took first places in two events. Yelena Isinbaeva won easily the women’s pole vault and Viacheslav Voronin was unbeatable in the men’s high jump.
Olympic champion and World record holder Yelena Isinbaeva needed only one jump to win. She was the only one who cleared 4.65 meters. As the winner, she attempted to set a new World record, but unfortunately couldn’t clear 5.02 meters.

There were three jumpers who contested at 2.31 meters mark: Vicheslav Shabunin, Tora Harris from USA and Yuri Krimarenko from Ukraine. The first attempt was unsuccessful for all of them. In the second one, only Viacheslav Shabunin cleared the mark and won the event.
