Yuliya Pechonkina finishes her sport career

24.09.2009

World 400mH Champion and record holder Yuliya Pechonkina has finished her sport career.

Yuliya made the decision one week before the World Championships in Berlin due to her state of health. She had health problems many years including chronic sinusitis, allergy and a thigh injury she got some time ago.

Yuliya said her decision was a difficult one. Her results were getting worse during last two years; she had an operation as well. She tried to comeback this season, but trainings were coming hardly and there was a psychological pressure she couldn’t clock fast times. Yuliya was included to the national team for Berlin but she decided for her not to go to Berlin because she couldn’t to compete against strongest hurdlers of the World.

Yuliya declared her decision at a new athletic stadium in a village of Yerino in Podolsk district of Moscow Oblast where the 2010 Russian Cup in Athletics will possibly be held. In a week, Yuliya will begin to work in a bank.
