22.11.2009 World

Austrian top female runner Andrea Mayr has suffered in a bicycle accident in Vienna a broken collarbone, an injury to his ear and abrasions.

The 30-year-old runner who was in the top ten for Austrian Sportswoman of the Year collided with a lorry and must have now  three weeks of rest. Training is only possible for her on the exercise bike inside her room. Mayr said she had great portion of luck in the collision. She won this year Vienna City Marathon in the Austrian record time of 2:30:43. As Mayr confessed, she was on the sidewalk. The truck driver ignored her and touched her right front, thereby breaking the collarbone of the athlete. Mayr came to fall and slid under the heavy vehicle.“The truck drove over the bike, in my mind he‘s gone about my leg. I was extremely frightened, but I was not hurt. Perhaps the wheel has protected me, I can not logically explain it. Maybe it‘s a reality distortion „ she described the accident. She was to fly to Nigeria on Monday to participate at Mt. Obuda Mountain race. The healing of the fracture will take up to six weeks.
