Johnson: ‘You can beat the gun, but not Bolt’
American track & field legend Michael Johnson, in supporting the no-false-start rule, says it doesn’t make sense athletes try to beat the gun when they can’t beat Usain Bolt.
The ruling athletics body IAAF in August introduced a new no-false-start rule from January 1 onwards.
Under the tightened rule, any athlete who commits a false start is disqualified. The decision-making IAAF congress gave its nod with a 97-56 vote.
Johnson said: “At the end of the day, these athletes are professional athletes.”
