Bolt to meet Powell in NYC, maybe also Gay

04.02.2010 World

World´s most popular athlete Usain Bolt will open his competition year on February 13 in Kingston. He will run as part of his usual winter preparation for summer the 400 m.

Also in 2009 he started in the similar way at Camperdown Meet with 46.35 time. His best at the distance from 2007 is 45.28. For the moment Bolt is contracted to run seven IAAF Diamond League meetings in summer. First announced by today is the 100 m at adidas Grand Prix in New York City on June 12. It is clear he will meet there with his Jamaican rival Asafa Powell who committed to all seven Diamond League 100 meters. Still unclear whether US record holder Tyson Gay will join them. Gay is also contracted to seven races, but the distribution between 100 m and 200 m is not known. For Bolt NYC will be his competitive return to US after 9.72 world record in 2008. “New York was the site of my first world record, the track is lightning fast and the fans, well, they sat through an entire thunderstorm in 2008 just to watch the 100m so I know they appreciate speed,” said Bolt. “I am looking forward to returning to the Big Apple in June,” he was quoted by IAAF. With no global championships on the program the main goal for the fast Jamaican is to remain unbeaten and concentrate mainly on the new meetings circuit. On his twitter Usain Bolt wrote on January 21: “Some crazy 300 m today, resting up.”
