Bolt to run 300m in Ostrava

18.03.2010 World

World fastest man Usain Bolt confirmed his special appearance at 49th Ostrava Golden Spike Meeting on May 27 in Czech Republic.

He will for first time in his career run 300 m in competition. It will be his fourth appearance in Ostrava since 2006.

„I have done some 300´s in training so am used to the distance but this will be my first time to race it. If the weather is good I hope to run a fast time,“ Bolt was quoted.  Michael Johnson´s world best 30.85 from 2000 was achieved in high altitude of Pretoria.  So far his other officialy confirmed races are in the IAAF Diamond League, a pair of 100 m in New York on June 12 and Paris on July 16. Bolt commited to 7 DL races.

“Training is going well.  I am getting ready for the summer season.  My early races in Jamaica have been good so I think I am where I need to be at this time of year.  There is still a lot of work to be done in the next 2 months but I am getting there,” Bolt said about his current situation. About possible future 400 m debut he added: “I think the 400m is somewhere in the future but hopefully after 2012.  The 400m is painful.”

The goals for 2010 without a global championships are clear for Bolt: “I just want to keep winning and stay injury free.” Other stars already confirmed for Ostrava are Dayron Robles, Blanka Vlasic and home most popular athlete javelin thrower Barbora Spotakova. Organisers did not publish Bolt´s promotion fee, so any information in media in this connection are pure speculation. The only amount which was mentioned is 30 000 USD bonus for breaking Michael Johnson´s all-time 300 m best.
