Skvortsova finishes third in Los Angeles

Silviya Skvortsova finished third at 25th Los Angeles Marathon clocking 2:27:20.

Kenyan Wesley Korir defended his title with third fastest time of the event 2:09:19. He has now two of this three best ever times here. On Sunday he won on a new course which started at the Dodgers stadium and ended at Santa Monica Pier.

Second Richard Limo clocked 2:09:48, third Paul Samoei 2:09:53 (PB) and fourth Laban Kipkemboi 2:10:40. Best US runner Kent Myers as 10th (2:18:20). Edna Kiplagat (30) won the women race in her second marathon (first back in 2005 at 2:50 level) in excellent life-time best 2:25:38. She will earn a gender challenge bonus worth of 100 000 USD (18 minutes head start). Kiplagat as junior won world medals at 3000 m and competed in the past also in World CC Championships.

Teyba Naser of Ethiopia clocked personal best 2:26:20 to second, third Russian Silvia Skvortsova  achieved 2:27:20. Fourth another Ethiopian Tiki Gelana as last dipped under 2:30 with career best 2:29:27. Best US runner Linda Sommer Smith at age of 48 as 6th in 2:36:33. It is her fastest since 1998 and fourth fastest of the career.

The men‘s and women‘s winners each earned  USD 20 000 plus a new Honda car for their victories. Kiplagat also received a 25 000 USD bonus for a time equal to a top-20 mark during the 2009 season.
