Caster Semenya to resume running after gender status ruling : ASA

30.03.2010 World

APA-Johannesburg (South Africa) Athletics South Africa (ASA) have said that its World Champion in the 800m, Caster Semenya, might not run until the medical process to determine her gender status has been completed by the world athletics authorities, APA has learnt here.

Following a telephone conference with International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) officials late Monday, ASA Administrator Ray Mali called for Semenya and her advisors to be patient for the IAAF’s decision on the matter.

Talks between ASA and the IAAF were fuelled by media reports that Semenya was due to make her return to athletics in Tuesday’s Yellow Pages Series of athletics meeting at Stellenbosch University in the south of the country.

Semenya apparently asked ASA to allow her to take part in the event, according to an SABC report monitored here.
