Isinbayeva named Youth Olympic Games Sponsor

29.04.2010

This week, Olympic pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva officially became a Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Ambassador.

The Russian World record holder joins in this role the undisputed star of swimming, Michael Phelps, who was appointed as an ambassador last February.

“I am thrilled at the idea of playing such an important role, promoting activity among young people," said the two-time Olympic champion. "And the Youth Olympic Games are the ideal way to achieve this, as a real source of inspiration for young people throughout the world to excel themselves through sport.”

“Yelena Isinbayeva is a real champion, a veritable role model for young people," said IOC President Jacques Rogge. "I have no doubt that the 3,600 athletes who will participate in the Games in Singapore this summer will be impressed by this athlete, and that she will be able to motivate them to think big and excel themselves.”
