Alex Schwazer wins 20km in Sesto San Giovanni

Local fans were happy at 53rd Coppa Citta di Sesto San Giovanni walking meet as olympic 50 km champion Alex Schwazer won the 20 km in 1:20:29.

Norway´s Erik Tysse was second in 1:21:29 and third French European champion Yohan Diniz (1:22:44). Tunisian Hassanine Sbai was surprise fourth (1:22:51)). „Today in Sesto the win was the most important thing. Compared to Lugano, I have not paid attention to times. I was alone in front, so I ended the race at a steady pace. Good feelings now continue, until May 5 I will prepare in Senales, the day after we travel to Mexico. I will compete at the 50 km at the world cup and will decide later about my programme for Barcelona European Championships,“ said Schwazer. In the second leg of IAAF Race Walking Challenge women win for Vera Santos of Portugal (1:28:29) beating German Melanie Seeger who returns after maternity (1:29:20) and third British record holder Jo Jackson in 1:32:05. Santos won also the first leg of the series at home in Rio Maior. Ireland´s world medalist Olive Loughnane was disqualified at 15 km mark.
