“Two year ban is harsh”, says Chris Williams

24.05.2010 World

Former Jamaican Sportsman of the Year, Christopher Williams, has expressed disappointment with his two year ban, which was announced earlier this week.

According to the IAAF anti-doping rule violation list, Williams, the 2001 World Championships 200m silver medalist, returned an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) for Amphetamine/levmetamphetamine, at a meet in Spain in July 2009.

In his response, Williams first made it clear, he ingested the substance from cold medication he used, while on his July 2009 European trip. He was taking Dayquil and Vicks inhaler. He said he declared what he was taking on the drug testing form.

According to him, to get a two year ban for a cold medicine, is ridiculous, especially when others got less time for greater violations.

He however, blamed the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) for the way they dealt with the situation. He said the JAAA knew about it since August of 2009.
