Rodgers vs Frater in Zhukovskiy

Mike Rodgers (USA), Michael Frater, Steve Mullings (Jamaica), Ramil Ruliyev (Azerbaijan) and Andrey Yepishin (Russia) will compete in the men’s 100m at the Znamensky Memorial in Zhukovskiy.

The men’s 100m is the most attractive event for athletics fans in the world, and the meeting organizers put together a strong lineup. Olympic and World 4x100m champion Michael Frater is one of the stronger sprinters of the world. His season best is 10.08, but he clocked a sub-10 second result (wind assisted) tree times this season including 9.97 (+2.1) achieved in Oslo. Frater won in Osaka, Taiwan, Warsaw and Turin and was second after Usain Bolt in Daegu.

His main rival is World Indoor silver medalist Mike Rodgers who competed successfully in the 2010 indoor season finishing second in the men’s 60m in Doha. In the men’s 200m, he was third in Daegu and won in Osaka, and won the men’s 100m in Rio-de-Janeiro. Rodgers clocked a sub-10 time (9.99, +2.4) in New York on 12 June. His PB is 9.94.

Ramil Guliyev, 20, was one of the openings of the previous season. He was in the men’s 200m final at the 2009 World Championships. He bettered Azerbaijani national records in the men’s 100m (10.08) and the men’s 200m (20.04).

Steve Mullings won the men’s 4x100m at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. He is more successful in the men’s 200 with a PB of 19.98 (5th place in Berlin), but his PB in the men’s 100m of 10.01 commands respect.

Andrey Yepishin, a native of Zhukovskiy, will be the favorite competitor for local fans. Hetrains in Zhukovskiy and will try to do his best. In 2006, he finished second in the men’s 60m at the World Indoor Championships in Moscow to clock a new personal best and national record of 6.52 seconds.
