30.06.2010

Multiple Olympic Games and World Championships medallist Anastasiya Kapachinskaya produced a season best and European-leading time of 50.16 to win a high quality women’s 400m at the Moscow Cup, the European Athletics Outdoor Premium Meeting in Russia on Tuesday.

Reigning European indoor champion Antonina Krivoshapka also produced her season best of 50.56 but could only finish second, while world indoor 4x400m silver medallist Tatyana Firova came third with a time of 50.79.

Ukrainian Antonina Yefremova (50.81) and Russia’s Kseniya Zadorina (a PB 50.87) finished ahead of reigning European champion Vania Stambolova of Bulgaria who clocked 51.25.

"I wanted to have an even race and I am glad that it went okay. I hope my shape will keep on improving leading up to the nationals (Russian national championships) and subsequently in Barcelona (European Athletics Championships)," said Kapachinskaya who is still undecided about whether she will compete in the 200m or the 400m race in Barcelona.
