Konovalova’s solo 5000m victory the highlight in windy Saransk – Russian champs, day 3

Saransk, Russia – Mariya Konovalova produced a solo 14:49.68 victory in the 5000m to highlight an extremely windy third day of competition at the Russian national championships in Saransk on Wednesday (14).
The experienced Konovalova took the lead from the gun and ran from the front throughout en route to her season’s best, the fastest by a European this season, to successfully defend her title. To the joy of local fans, Yelizaveta Grechishnikova from Mordovia took second in 15:14.19 with Olga Golovkina third (15:16.95).
