World champion and European record-holder arrive in Moscow

24.01.2006

World 60m champion Jason Gardener (GBR) and European record-holder Ronald Pognon (FRA) are arriving in Moscow today to meet face to face in the most transient and interesting act of the Russian Winter Athletic Performance on 25 January.
Ronald Pognon, ranked number 5 in the 100m and World 4x100m champion, considers the meeting as a return match for her last year’s defeat at the European Championships in Madrid. The French sprinter has been unbeatable in the last year’s indoor season. He set a new World record of 6.45 in the 100m, taking it from Jason Gardener, but let him to win in Madrid and become a European champion for the third time (a unique record!).

He will be one of the main pretenders to win in Moscow, at the Russian Winter and at the World Indoors in March. He will aim at a new record every time. Pognon was performing very well in the last year’s indoor season and clocked a sub-10 sec result in his career for the first time — 9.99sec.

Jason Gardener (a personal best of 6.46sec) is one of the strongest sprinters around the World being an Olympic, World and European champion. He has been unbeatable in the 60m at the last World championships in Budapest and at three European championships. He holds an original World record, he clocked the 60 meters at official meetings better than 6.60sec.

Shall we see an interesting rivalry of the World’s super sprinters but don forget that Russia’s Andrey Yepishin has achieved much success in his results in the last winter placing fourth at the European championships 60m final. Besides he bet Gardener in a 60 meters semi-final!
