Wilkins for two years, Fraser ban still open

In Jamaican doping news as reported by TrackAlerts the female 400 m runner Bobby-Gaye Wilkins has been banned for two years.

The decision of Jamaican Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) means after her positive test during IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha that Jamaica could lose the bronze medals in 4x400 m. Wilkins was the first runner of the team. In that case bronze medals will be given to Czech Republic. Wilkins two year ban starts in April 2010.  In other case world and olympic 100 m gold medalist Shelly-Ann Fraser still faces disciplinary action after her positive test for oxycodone at Shanghai Diamond League meeting on May 23.  The Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA‘s), in a release on Wednesday, explained: „The hearing into the Adverse Analytical Finding involving Ms. Shelly-Ann Fraser, reconvened on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, having been suspended in accordance with the IAAF Rule 38.19. The Tribunal was of the view that there were circumstances in the athlete‘s case which may be exceptional and special and therefore referred the case to the IAAF‘s Doping Review Board for determination,“ the release continued. „The Doping Review Board has now replied that they have agreed with the Tribunal that special circumstances are met for a reduction of sanction in the athlete‘s case from two years.“ The lenght of her ban is not yet decided.
