Isinbayeva returns

02.02.2011

Two-time Olympic champion, 27-time World record holder in the women’s pole vault Yelena Isinbayeva returns to athletics after a 1-year break, and the 20th Russian Winter will be her first meeting.

Lena, why the Russian Winter?
The first time I competed at the Russian Winter was last year, and I very liked it. I liked all, the meeting organization, the residence conditions and the food service. The food was so good, so I even had to control myself sometimes not to overeat. In general, the organizers worked very well and took care of the competitors, which is always pleasant. In addition, I like that the Russian Winter is an IAAF Permit meeting and collects strongest athletes of the World.

What can you say about the area and the competition atmosphere?
The CSKA area is comfortable, clean and light! I was nice surprised by judges’ skills. They didn’t delay the warm-up and the competition, worked clearly and coordinated. And I want to thank Russian fans, who know athletics and know how to support athletes. I personally was supported by applause and screams of the crowd. I always feel support of a crowd, which helps me to jump highly.

Last year, you had a big supporting crowd. What’s about it this time?
I seldom compete in Russia, and my family and friends watch me on TV in general. So, when I came to Moscow many friends of mine came to support me. This time, I will have a supporting team as well, and my parents will specially fly from Volgograd.

Do you feel nervous before a competition?
I’m sure that my time-out helped me. I realized that I can’t stop at the level I reached and I’m capable of greater. I don’t feel nervous and I’m completely sure of myself. And, I want to compete at the Russian Winter every year!
