Russian Indoor Championships, Day 1

The 2011 Russian Indoor Championships started in Moscow today. The championships will last 3 days.

Olesya Syryeva won the women’s 3000m to become the first Russian champion of 2011. She clocked a World season lead of 8:41.35. Yelena Zadorozhnaya finished second clocking 8:41.64, and Yelena Korobkina was third with a Russian U23 best performance of8:52.12. Korobkina beat Mariya Pantyukhova’s best of 8:55.40 from 1996.

Anastasiya Solovyova won the women’s 60mH at the Russian Indoor Championships for the first time in her career. She clocked 8.12 seconds (8.07 in heats).Aleksandra Antonova was second in 1 second after the winner – 8.13. Yekaterina Galitskaya finished third with 8.16.

Yevgeniy Borisov and Konstantin Shabanov were winners in the men’s 60m. They both clocked the same time of 7.63 seconds, and even the photo finish didn’t help to define the winner. Aleksey Dryomin was third – 7.78.

Without Yelena Isinbayeva and Svetlana Feofanova, Yuliya Golubchikova, Aleksandra Kiryashova and Alzhela Sidorova were the main rivals in the women’s pole vault. Kiryashova beat Golubchikova at 4.50m by attempts and became a national champion for her first time, and Sidorova, 19, placed third with 4.40m.

Natalya Murinovich won the women’s 60m clocking 7.30 seconds. She beat Yuliya Katsura (7.33) and Svetlana Nabokina (7.34). Aleksandr Shpayer won the men’s 60m and Sergey Ivanov won the men’s 3000m.
