Changes in team

23.02.2011

Russian Athletics head coach Valentin Maslakov said that some changes were made in the Russian team for the European Indoor Championships in Paris.

“Unfortunately, 2-time Olympic champion Yelena Isinbayeva will not compete at the European Indoor Championships. She got a virus and decided not to risk her health and to take the cure to prepare for the World Championships in Daegu. She will work on her jump technique all the time before Daegu. It’s a big loss for out team, of course. Lena competed very well after her long break. She won at the Russian Winter in Moscow and the Pole Vault Stars in Donetsk to become the World leader in the women’s pole vault with 4.85m. But an athlete’s health is above all for us.

So, only Aleksandra Kiryashova will compete in the women’s pole vault for Russia in Paris. In the men’s pole vault, we decided to include Dmitriy Starodubtsev and Igor Pavlov to the team. Vasiliy Kharlamov and Aleksandr Kislov will represent Russia in the men’s heptathlon.
